Washington Alley Project Community Engagement

The Alley Hoppin’ Washington Alley Project Exhibition is back home at the studio! What better way to share the DC alley network with the NACTO (National Association of City Transportation Officials) Designing Cities conference?

To integrate the viewfinders we use for Alley Hops and community engagement events to the Washington Alley Project exhibition at the District Architecture Center we had full-size figures CNC routed, painted bright yellow, and mounted the viewfinders at eye level: a fun moment to connect exhibition visitors of all heights and abilities to the wider work of the Washington Alley Project!

Recently as a part of out Washington Alley Project community engagement, EL Studio Principals Elizabeth Emerson and Mark Lawrence cohosted a tour with Rita Abou Samra and Kim Williams at the DC Office of Planning entitled Activated Alleys as part of the 2025 NACTO (National Association of City Transportation Officials) Designing Cities Conference in Washington DC. It was a blast to tour some of Washington alleys and public spaces and engage with experts from all over! Thank you to our partners at Mount Vernon Triangle Community Improvement District, Kenyattah Robinson, Grace Aucella and DowntownDC Bid , Lukas Umana for participating as well!
