A riverside home reimagined for gathering, relaxing, and taking in every view.

We’re excited to share a first look at a project that’s just getting underway, a thoughtful transformation of a recently renovated home overlooking the Potomac River. While the house had already undergone significant updates, our clients recognized that there was still untapped potential waiting to be realized. The setting itself was extraordinary, with sweeping river views and a generous backyard anchored by a pool, yet the home’s connection to these natural assets felt understated and underutilized.

Our clients loved their new house, but they envisioned spaces that felt more personal, more intuitive, and better suited to how they live and entertain. They wanted to fully embrace the surrounding landscape, allowing the river to become an ever-present backdrop rather than a distant feature. At the same time, they hoped to create a home that could effortlessly support gatherings, both intimate and lively, where guests could move easily from indoors to outdoors, and from quiet retreats to social spaces.

Our design solution centers on flow. By strengthening the connections between interior spaces and the outdoors, the home begins to feel more expansive, cohesive, and intentional. A key component of this transformation is a new primary bath addition, thoughtfully sited atop the home’s existing one-story wing. Elevated above the landscape, this serene retreat will offer panoramic views of the Potomac, turning everyday routines into moments of calm and reflection.

From the primary suite, a new roof terrace will extend the living experience outdoors, creating a private perch above the pool and garden below. This elevated outdoor space becomes a bridge, both visually and physically, linking the primary suite to the reimagined backyard. Below, the landscape and hardscape are designed to support easy entertaining, with a refreshed pool terrace and outdoor kitchen that encourage lingering afternoons and lively evenings by the water.

Together, these interventions reframe the home as a seamless sequence of experiences, from river to roof terrace and from bedroom to backyard, allowing the architecture, landscape, and lifestyle to move in harmony. This project is not about starting over, but about revealing what was always possible, a riverside home that fully celebrates its setting while supporting the rhythms of daily life and gathering alike.
